Lord Provost Robert Gray

Lord Provost Robert Gray, photographed for the February 1987 issue of Glasgow City Council's newspaper The Bulletin presenting the Glasgow's Sportsperson of the Year 1986 trophy to Scottish badminton internationalist Dan Travers. At the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Travers and Billy Gilliland won a gold medal for Scotland in the men's doubles. He subsequently became Director of Coaching for the Scottish Badminton Union.

Robert Gray's service as a councillor spanned the years between the two reorganisations of Local Government in 1974 and 1996. He was City Treasurer and Chairman of Finance between 1980 and 1984 and Lord Provost from 1984 to 1988. Among the many other posts he held were Chairman of Greater Glasgow Tourist Board 1984-1988 and Deacon of the Incorporation of Wrights of the Trades House of Glasgow, 1995/1996. He was awarded the CBE in New Years Honours List of 1987/1988.
