Christmas Pantomime, 1989

Competition winner Susan McLean receiving her prize of tickets for the 1989 King's Theatre Christmas pantomime Mother Goose from stars Walter Carr (1925-1998) and Gerard Kelly. The photograph appeared in the December 1989 issued of Glasgow City Council's newspaper The Bulletin.

Walter Carr was one of Scotland's best-known comedy and character actors. In a show business career lasting over fifty years, he made regular appearances at venues such as the Pitlochry Festival and was a popular pantomime dame. On television, he made a series of programmes with Lex McLean, and will be remembered by many as Para Handy's mate Dougie in the comedy The Vital Spark.

Since appearing as the killer in the first ever transmission of Taggart in 1983, Gerard Kelly has been a familiar screen face both as a straight actor in programmes such as Brookside and as a comedian in shows such as City Lights. A similarly versatile stage career includes starring roles in pantomime.
