Easterhouse Sports Centre

Parks and Recreation convener Danny Ferguson and former Celtic and Scotland footballer Danny McGrain, supervised by instructor Jane Corbett, try out the equipment at the opening of Easterhouse Sports Centre. The photograph appeared in the April 1990 issue of Glasgow City Council's newspaper The Bulletin.

The £1.8 million sports centre was part of the council's drive to provide better sports and recreation facilities in Glasgow's peripheral estates. In addition to the fitness suite illustrated, facilities were provided for volleyball, badminton, indoor bowls, five-a-side football, basketball, judo and table tennis.

Born in Finnieston, Danny McGrain was a Celtic player from 1967 until 1987, during which time he made 657 appearances for the club at full back. He won six League Championship medals, five Scottish Cup winners' medals and two League Cup winners' medals with Celtic and sixty-two caps for Scotland, including appearances at the World Cup Finals of 1974 and 1982. He was voted Scottish Player of the Year in 1977 and was awarded the MBE in 1983.
