Saracen's Head Assembly Room

The Assembly Room in the old Saracen's Head Inn, Gallowgate, shortly before its demolition in 1904.

The Saracen's Head was Glasgow's leading hotel in the late 18th century and it's assembly hall (advertsied as "a large room where 100 people can be entertained at one time") was the venue for the most fashionable balls. Although the hotel closed in 1792 and the building was converted to shops and dwellings, the assembly hall was retained and let to religious groups and others as a meeting place.
