A Thomas Annan photograph of a portrait of Thomas Brown (1776-1847). The painting was by John Graham-Gilbert.
Brown became the minister of St John's Parish Church in Calton in 1826. He joined the Free Church of Scotland in 1843 and became minister of St John's Free until his death.
The original painting appeared in an exhibition of notable figures connected with Glasgow held in the Town Council's Gallery of Art at 270 Sauchiehall Street in 1868. Annan was commissioned to produce an illustrated catalogue using his photographs of the portraits.
