John Henderson

A photograph by Thomas Annan of a portrait of John Henderson of Park (1782-1867) by the artist Alexander Keith. The painting was exhibited in the Glasgow Gallery of Art in 1868 and the photograph was published in the exhibition catalogue.

Henderson, of Park in Renfrewshire, was a Glasgow merchant. He was a stalwart of the United Presbyterian Church and the National Bible Society of Scotland, a strict and campaigning Sabbbatarian, and an energetic supporter of the Evangelical Alliance. He made large contributions to many Glasgow's charitable institutions, said to amount to up to £40,000 each year.
