The Glasgow Bloomers

"The Glasgow Bloomers", a song preserved in a scrapbook entitled Old Glasgow Street Songs etc, 1850 which is held at the Mitchell Library.

The date at the foot of the page suggests this comic song was published originally in 1851. It mocks (gently) the women's fashions of the day. It pokes fun at whalebone corsets, polka dots and bustles, as well as factory girls who "mimic the fashions of ladies of high circle."

A "bloomer" is apparently a fashionable young lady.
