Auld Kirk o' Pollokshaws

"Auld Kirk O' Pollokshaws", a song preserved in a scrapbook entitled Old Glasgow Street Songs etc, 1850 and which is held at the Mitchell Library.

The song concerns the departure of the congregation from Pollokshaws Associate Secession Church in Kirk Lane in 1870, when the members joined the Free Church of Scotland and moved to a new church on Rossendale Road. To the disgust of the songwriter, the old church was stripped of its fixtures and fittings and became a concert venue and dance hall. "The fact is this; it's no' a place, for song or dance to be; the authors o' this vile disgrace their error yet shall see."
