Glasgow Fair

"Glasgow Fair", a song which has been preserved in a scrapbook entitled Old Glasgow Street Songs etc, 1850 held at the Mitchell Library.

William Burns' song is a warning to country dwellers, to stay clear of the "strumpets" who gathered at the Glasgow Fair and sought to take advantage of naive visitors to the big city. "O kintra lads tak' my advice, and never, you, gang near them."
