Alexander Campbell of Hallyards

A photograph of a portrait of Alexander Campbell of Hallyards (1768-1817). The painting was by Sir Henry Raeburn.

Campbell was a partner in the West Indies trading company John Campbell Snr & Co. He was popularly known as either "Sandy Doune" or "Business Sandy" and was a director of the Glasgow Celtic Society which was the first body to codify rules for the game of shinty in 1879.
