A Burns & Laird poster, 1926, advertising the Royal Mail Route which carried passengers six days a week from the Broomielaw Quay to Belfast, via Greenock.
During the 1920s the company suffered a decline in the number of tourists travelling to Ireland, in the aftermath of the Irish War of Independence which followed the Easter Rising of 1916 and the civil war which followed the creation of the Irish Free State in 1922.
