Coronation Poster

A proclamation printed by the Town Clerk's Department notifying the public of arrangements for King Edward VII's coronation on 26 June 1902.

Although extensive arrangements were made to mark the coronation, Glasgow's celebrations had to be postponed as the future King developed appendicitis shortly before the event. To many citizens' consternation, all public holidays which had been scheduled to coincide with the celebrations were cancelled. Many other people, who had refrained from taking their annual holiday "doon the watter" so that they could take part in the festivities, crowded the city streets despite the cancellation of the day's parade and other official celebrations.

The King was finally crowned on 9 August.
