Woodside Public School

A woodwork class in Woodside Public School in 1916. The boys in the class are making what appear to be small wooden cabinets or bird nesting boxes from the plans which are propped up in front of them at their work benches.

On the wall behind the teacher in the centre of the photograph there are posters of the various trees which would have supplied the class with wood, and others to the left show different tree leaves. The posters may have served as illustrations for nature studies, a subject which had been introduced to the school curriculum in Scotland during the early 1900s.
