Primary school pupils at London Road School in Parkhead, 1916. The children, who appear to be about six or seven years old, are following their teacher in a simple exercise using wooden blocks. In 1931 the maximum number of pupils permitted in a primary class was reduced from sixty to fifty.
In contrast to the boys and girls cramped into this classroom the pictures hung on the walls around them show happy and well-dressed children playing with kittens and puppies.
