An advertisement from the Post Office Glasgow directory 1838-1839 for A Abraham & Co, opticians and mathematical and philosophical instrument makers in Exchange Square. The range of products manufactured there is vast, from Phantasmagoria (optical devices for varying the size of an image appearing on a screen) to Payne's Patent Pocket Pedometers!

Abraham was probably a member of Glasgow's still small Jewish community which had been established in 1823. The advertisement states "No business transacted on Saturday", the Jewish Sabbath.
