Advertisements from the Post Office Glasgow directory of 1851-1852 for Medicated Vapour Baths in Anderston and Medical Galvanism in South Portland Street. The baths employed female attendants to wait upon women customers. Medical galvanism is electrotherapy, and practitioners used electrical batteries to stimulate the systems of patients to treat or to provide relief from painful medical conditions. It was one of many health "fads" that excited the curiosity of the well-to-do in Britain in the mid-19th century.
