Ally McCoist

Ally McCoist, along with footballer Justin Fashanu and boxer Chris Eubank (right) pictured in the June 1993 issue of Glasgow City Council's newspaper The Bulletin. The men posed outside the SECC at an event to publicise the annual Glasgow half-marathon race, which was run on August 22. McCoist's enthusiasm seems undiminished by having his leg in plaster, the result of a broken leg sustained while playing for Scotland in Portugal.

After playing with St Johnstone and Sunderland, Ally McCoist signed for Rangers in 1983, becoming the greatest goalscorer in the club's history with 250 league goals. Thirty-four of these were scored in the 1991-1992 season, when he was awarded the European Golden Boot and named Scotland's Player of the Year. Other highlights included his hat-trick against Celtic in the 1984 League Cup final and scoring the winning goal in his only Scottish Cup Final victory in 1992. Since retiring from football, his face has become familiar on TV chat and quiz shows, and as a football pundit.
