Francie and Josie

Lord Provost Susan Baird presenting The Loving Cup to Jack Milroy (left) and Rikki Fulton, pictured in the City Chambers for Glasgow City Council's newspaper The Bulletin in December 1991. The Loving Cup is presented annually to a person or group of people bringing distinction and publicity to the city. In this case it was for the actors' portrayal of two of Glasgow's best-loved comic characters, Francie and Josie.

Both actors enjoyed successful solo careers, but it was their double act as the two Glasgow wideboys which particularly endeared them to Glasgow audiences. They first came together on stage in 1960, and later played the characters in several series on Scottish Television. Their quick-fire Glasgow patter was often made up on the spot. As Fulton said at his co-star's funeral in 2001, "On stage I didn't know what Jack was going to do or say next, and he didn't know what I was up to."
