Millbrae Crescent

Millbrae Crescent, Langside, pictured in 1988 in Glasgow City Council's newspaper The Bulletin on the occasion of the street's designation as Glasgow's twenty-first conservation area.

Millbrae Crescent consists of an elegant row of two-storey terraced houses believed to have been designed by the architects Alexander "Greek" Thomson and Robert Turnbull and built in the 1870s. Restoration work undertaken since 1988 includes a replica of the original cast iron fencing along the pavement.

In 1988 Glasgow's conservation areas contained more than 1,000 listed buildings and structures. The Planning Department's policy was to conserve and enhance the architectural heritage of Glasgow, to promote the city's image, and to integrate conservation with urban renewal. Many historic buildings have been successfully restored despite tight constraints on funding.
