Baillieston Juniors

A photograph from Glasgow City Council's newspaper The Bulletin of Bailie Bill Aitken hosting a civic reception for Baillieston Juniors, along with club captain Alex McLaren (left) and manager Jim Cook (right). On display are the trophies won by the club during season 1979-1980: Scottish Junior Cup, Drybrough Cup and McLeod Cup.

Baillieston Juniors were founded in 1919, and play at Station Park. Season 1979-1980 was the most successful in the club's history. This was the first time that the Scottish Junior Cup, junior football's most coveted trophy, had been taken to Baillieston. Famous players who began their careers at Baillieston include Andy Anderson of Hearts and Scotland, and Davie Wilson of Rangers and Scotland.

Bill Aitken was a Conservative member of Glasgow City Council from 1976 to 1999, where he acted as leader of the opposition twice, Bailie of the City three times and Convener of Licensing. He has also been Depute Lord Lieutenant and a magistrate. In 1999 he became a Member of the Scottish Parliament.
