Wallace & Weir Overcoat

The "Murrayfield" overcoat, illustrated in the Walwer styles overcoats catalogue for the winter of 1939-1940 issued by Wallace & Weir, 26 Argyle Street, manufacturers of men's and boy's clothing.

The choice of name would be inspired by Murrayfield Stadium, in Edinburgh, Scotland's national rugby stadium. In 1938 Scotland won the Triple Crown by beating Wales, Ireland and England, for only the second time in the team's history. The team was captained by Wilson Shaw, of Glasgow High School FP, who scored two tries in the victory over England at Twickenham in what was the first televised rugby international.
