Pettigrew & Stephens Sale, 1933

Boys' clothing illustrated in a sale catalogue issued by Pettigrew & Stephens in January 1933.

Suits were often worn by boys whose families could afford to buy them. Soft cotton shirts, striped ties, short trousers, woollen socks and lace-up shoes were standard schoolwear, often worn at other times as well. Corduroys, traditionally worn by British working men and farm labourers, became popular with boys as leisure wear. It is safe to say that few boys in the working class neighbourhoods of Glasgow would have strolled through the streets in a Plus-Four Suit!
