Pettigrew & Stephens Sale, 1933

"Needlework novelties" illustrated in a sale catalogue issued by Pettigrew & Stephens in January 1933.

Such non-essential items may have been difficult to sell in the Great Depression of the early 1930s. Hard times brought in a culture of "make do and mend", in which women learned to use their skills in needlework to make household items at home.
