Ladies' umbrellas and handbags illustrated in a sale catalogue issued by Pettigrew & Stephens in January 1933.
Chubby umbrellas for ladies first appeared in 1923, and were still popular ten years later. The absence of parasols from the sale catalogue may be more a reflection on the Glasgow climate than an indication of their popularity elsewhere.
Handbags in the early 1930s were medium or small size flat pochettes. From about 1936 they became larger and the variety increased.
