Ladies' knitted clothing illustrated in a sale catalogue issued by Pettigrew & Stephens in January 1933.
Scotland has always had a high reputation as a centre for the manufacture of woollen goods. The Glasgow area experienced considerable expansion in the woollen industry between the wars. The firm of McClure and McIntosh, founded in 1921, claimed by 1937 to have the largest workforce among British knitted goods companies at their premises in Rutherglen Road. Kidmar Hosiery Co and McCallum & Craigie were other prosperous Glasgow firms involved in the supply of woollen goods.
