Pettigrew & Stephens Sale, 1933

Fur-trimmed coats illustrated in Pettigrew & Stephens' sale catalogue, January 1933.

The environmentalist movements of the last forty years have made fur garments controversial and (to many) politically incorrect. But in the 1930s fur coats, or at least fur-trimmed coats, were seen as highly desirable items of clothing. The ubiquity of images of Hollywood celebrities wearing fur garments, on cinema screens and in newspapers and magazines, helped popularise the fashion.
