Macfarlane's Castings

An example of ornamental stable fittings manufactured by Walter Macfarlane & Co at the Saracen Foundry, Possilpark. The illustration is from the firm's catalogue published in 1911.

In an age before motor cars were widely available and affordable, horse drawn carriages were the favoured mode of private transport for the wealthy. Macfarlane's catered for the market by providing secure accommodation for horses, along with accessories such as water troughs, hayracks and mangers.

Farms were another outlet for the firm's stable fittings. Similar accommodation for cattle was supplied in the form of byre fittings.
