Some of the range of office equipment supplied by Walter Macfarlane & Co from the Saracen Foundry, illustrated in the firm's catalogue published around 1883.
The catalogue suggests that the arrangement shown is particularly suitable for large offices, with each desk compartment complete in itself. A hook for the coat and hat of the all-male staff is attached to the back of the desk. The lower half of the drawing allows the various accessories to be viewed in greater detail.
