The first Glasgow directory was published in 1783 by John Tait. This image is taken from a facsimile reprint published in 1871 by Robert Forrester.
The final page of the Glasgow section echoes Tait's introduction, with an apology for errors and omissions. The supplement promised for "about the month of August" never appeared.
Tait's directory is completed by A list of the merchants &c. of the Town of Paisley, 1783. This is included in pages 79 to 103, and has a layout similar to the Glasgow section. A final page mentions the need to postpone publication of the Kilmarnock section, the relevant details not having been received by the publisher.
