The first Glasgow directory was published in 1783 by John Tait. This image is taken from a facsimile reprint published in 1871 by Robert Forrester. Page 34 includes surnames from Girdwood to Gilmour and those listed include a a mathematical instrument maker and an artificial flower maker, as well as teachers of mathematics, writing and music.
