Tait's Directory p03

The first Glasgow directory was published in 1783 by John Tait. This image is taken from a facsimile reprint published in 1871 by Robert Forrester.

The title page of the directory, shown here, also served as a contents page as was often the case with books published at that time. Information on where to obtain the book was also included.

Of the other towns Tait hoped to include in his directory, only Paisley appeared in the published edition, although a few citizens from Anderston, Calton and Gorbals did have an entry in the Glasgow section.
