International Exhibition, 1888

The Royal Reception Rooms at the International Exhibition of 1888 were fitted out by the firm of Wylie & Lochhead. They were used by the Prince and Princess of Wales on opening day and rearranged for the visit of Queen Victoria in August.

The Moresque design of the retiring room shown here was enhanced by oriental rugs and pottery. There were two retiring rooms off the main reception room and a separate dining room which had a Scottish baronial theme.
