York Street Theatre

When the Theatre Royal in Queen Street burned down in 1829, owner Frank Seymour opened a theatre in York Street as an intended replacement. The opening night featured a production of The Merchant of Venice, starring the famous actor Edmund Kean. Despite this auspicious beginning, the York Street Theatre was not a success, and it closed in 1831.
