George Douglas

George C M Douglas (1826-1904) was a minister and professor at the Free Church of Scotland College.

Son of the parish minister in Kilbarchan, Douglas was ordained at Bridge of Weir in 1852. In 1857 he was elected Professor of Hebrew and Old Testament Exegesis at Glasgow Free Church College where he became Principal in 1875. He was Moderator of the General Assembly of the Free Church in 1894.

Douglas was a Liberal in his politics, but he was regarded as a conservative theologian. Uncontroversial by nature, he was very popular with his students and was involved in many charities.
