James Smith (1803-1897) was minister of Cathcart Parish Church.
Smith was the son of a minister of Paisley Abbey. He was licensed in 1827 and ordained minister of the Parish of Cathcart in 1828. He became clerk of the Presbytery of Glasgow in 1843 and of the Synod of Glasgow and Ayr in 1853. In 1881 he was Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
In 1838 Smith wrote the account of the Parish of Cathcart for the New Statistical Account of Scotland. He died the Father of the Church at 94 years of age.
