Archibald Gilchrist

Archibald Gilchrist (1820-1900) was an engineer and shipbuilder.

Gilchrist was manager of Tod & MacGregor's engine works before becoming an engineering partner in Barclay, Curle & Co in 1857. He was Chairman of the latter company, 1887-1900. he was elected Deacon Convenor of the Trades House in 1875.

In 1872 Gilchrist purchased Dunoon Castle for his home. His son James was Chairman of Barclay, Curle & Co, 1900-1917.
