Alexander Somerville

Alexander Somerville (1812-1889) was the minister of Anderston Free Church.

Born in Edinburgh, Somerville was ordained as minister at Anderston in 1837. He was Moderator of the General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland in 1886.

From 1870 Somerville was the representative of the Barony of Somerville but declined to adopt the title. Instead he left Anderston and travelled around the world as an evangelist, introducing the Moody and Sankey hymn book to Australia.
