James Wilson was Provost of Govan.
Wilson was born near Edinburgh and spent fourteen years working in the West Indies for his firm, Taylor & Wilson.
In 1865 Wilson was elected a Police Commissioner in Govan, and he served as the Burgh's Provost 1872-1880. He was also a director of Glasgow Western Infirmary and of Abraham Hill's Trust.
