Robert Anderson

Robert Anderson was a letterpress printer.

Anderson was the brother of Sir James, the commander of the Great Eastern from which the Atlantic cable was laid in 1866. Born in Dumfries and a printer by trade, Robert came to Glasgow to work as a foreman with the Glasgow Herald before striking out in business on his own as a printer. The Bailie's caricaturist poked fun at him for spending much of each year in Millport on the island of Cumbrae.
