John Wilson was a railway company secretary.
Known as "Railway Jock" Wilson started his working life with James Lumsden & Son before joining the Edinburgh & Glasgow Railway Co c 1840. He became secretary of other railway companies including the Belfast & Ballymena Railway Co.
Wilson was famous for cultivating social contacts and The Bailie's caricaturist portrays him listening to gossip.
