David Brown

David Brown was a vocalist and theatre manager and in 1873 The Bailie called him "The Shah of the Scottish Music Halls".

Brown was the manager of the Royal Olympic Theatre (also known as David Brown's Philharmonic Hall) in 1857-1863. He became manager of Brown's (also known as The Royal) Music Hall in Dunlop Street, 1864-1881. According to The Bailie he attempted to introduce a "better" class of music and drama to his theatres, but his customers were unimpressed and he reverted to more popular entertainment.

By 1873 Brown had ceased to compere and sing at his theatre, concentrating instead on the management of the premises, bar and restaurant.
