Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman (1836-1908) was Prime Minister 1905–1908.

Bannerman was born in Glasgow the son of Sir James Campbell, a Lord Provost and a partner in the retail firm J & W Campbell. Educated at Glasgow University and Cambridge, Campbell-Bannerman (he took the additional name in 1871 under the will of a maternal uncle) was elected MP for the Stirling Burghs in 1868, and held a number of positions in Government before becoming leader of the Liberal Party in 1899. In 1895 he had been made a Knight of the Order of Bath.

When the Conservative Government resigned in 1905 Campbell-Bannerman became Prime Minister, and he led the party to victory in the Election of 1906. He was forced to resign as Prime Minister owing to ill-health in 1908, and died one week later.
