William Graham MP

William Graham was a cotton manufacturer, wine merchant and Member of Parliament. He represented Glasgow as a Liberal from 1865 until 1874.

Graham's father was the founder of the Lancefield Spinning Co and in 1810 W & J Graham & Co diversified its business interests when it began importing wines from Portugal. Graham's became one of Britain's most prominent port shippers.

A moderate Liberal, Graham was elected with Robert Dalglish and George Anderson in the party's great Glasgow triumph in the general election of 1868. In 1873 The Bailie's caricaturist depicted him in clerical garb, making reference to his alleged sanctimonious manner.
