The London Fried Fish Restaurant

The London Fried Fish Restaurant in Water Row at the corner of Manse Lane in Govan, c 1890s. In the late 18th century the ground floor was occupied by Moses Waddell's Inn, where the Govan Weavers' Society would meet each Govan Fair to elect a deacon.

Moses Waddell's tavern was the subject of a popular local ditty:

"Doon the Water Raw, lassies, Doon the Water Raw, Into Moses Waddell's, and get a drop o' sma'."

"Sma'" was the local name for the weak beer known as small ale.
