Buchanan Street looking south to the former St Enoch Underground Station at dusk. The entrance to the popular Princes Square shopping arcade, overlooked by the distinctive peacock sculpture, is on the left.
Buchanan Street has become the pedestrianised central axis of Glasgow, connecting the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and the Buchanan Galleries at the eastern end of Sauchiehall Street with Argyle Street, St Enoch Square and the St Enoch Shopping Centre to the south. The street was comprehensively upgraded during the 1990s and in 2002 it was voted the third-best street in Britain in a MORI poll conducted for the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment. Voters particularly liked the street because it is "well lit" and "clean" with "good public seating," "attractive tree planting" and "lots of great shops."
