Corporal William Cullen (centre) and two other members of the Home Guard unit formed at Larkfield bus depot, c 1941.
The Home Guard was a volunteer force formed in 1940 (originally as the Local Defence Volunteers) to defend Britain in the event of an invasion. Many of its members were men who were unable to join the armed forces because of their age, fitness, or because they worked in "reserved" occupations deemed vital to the war effort.
Bill Cullen was a Glasgow Corporation Transport tyre inspector.
