Constituted in 1821, the Govan Youths' United Society (sometimes also known as the Govan United Youths' Society) was a guild. It had many similarities to the Govan Weavers' Society, which was set up to aid the families of members who had fallen on hard times and to protect the business interests of its members.
The Govan Youths' United Society flourished until the 1870s when it encountered financial difficulties. At a meeting held on the 24 September 1888 it was agreed to disband the Society. However, the decision was not unanimous and one disgruntled member went to law to try and prevent the Society from disbanding. His case was thrown out of court when Society officials revealed that income for 1888 amounted to £16 and expenditure was £70.
