Women playing croquet in the back garden of Ibroxhill House, 1861. The house has two splendid conservatories.
Ibroxhill House was owned by the McCalls, a wealthy Glasgow merchant family. At the time the house was built, Ibrox lay beyond Glasgow's boundaries in a quiet, rural area south of Govan. Country houses such as this were very fashionable among the wealthy merchant classes.
