The Hugh MacDonald Fountain at Glasgow Green, early 20th century.
MacDonald (1817-1860) was a poet and writer. He was best known for Rambles Round Glasgow (1854) in which he recorded the walks he and his friends took in and around Glasgow in the mid-19th century.
Also known as the "Bonnie Wee Well" (after a line from one of MacDonald's poems), this drinking fountain was designed by John Mossman (1817-1890) and was originally located in the Gleniffer Braes, Paisley. It was moved to a new location just south of the People's Palace on Glasgow Green in 1881 because of vandalism.
