Pinks

Pinks by Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928).

This watercolour was painted c 1923 when Mackintosh and his wife were living in Chelsea in London. There was little architectural work available immediately after the First World War, and Mackintosh concentrated on textile design and flower painting to earn a living. While his earlier paintings were of wild flowers, those of this later period are cultivated varieties such as these pinks.
